The Work Ethic in Britain
One of my ideas for the documentary was a look into the work ethic of Britain and if it even exists as the influence of immigration and benefits have almost destroyed it in my view. A lot of people would say that it is easier the claim benefits and earn the same if not more than a person who works a 40+hour week. Going on to the issue of immigration having an affect on the work ethic of Britain, this is mainly down to the a lot of foreign workers working for a lot less and working more hours, therefore leaving less jobs for everyone else.
This documentary would expose people opinions and true feelings towards the issue of benefits and immigration having a direct affect on people work ethic and see how people feel these issues should be dealt with.
This would mainly fall into the expository mode with a loose connection to the poetic mode.
The Life of a Stripper
The main idea of this documentary would be to expose the real reason why both males and femals decide to become strippers and expose themselevs in the way they do. I would like to gain a way in to their past and weather they do this job just for the money or if there is any other reasons regarding their choldhood or an incident from the past for example abuse. Some exotic dancers do it just for the money as they may need to pay tuition fees or rent, others may do it as they become excited at the thought of making other people excited, however some may do it just because they have to and have no other option. The different mdoes in which this documentary couyld fall into are expository, poetic, observational and performative.
The Art of the Tattoo
The idea of making a documentary focusing on tattoo design and the culture behind it is something I am passionate about as I have tattoos myself and have personal meaning to me. In contrast to this alot of people would see a tattoo as a thugish mark on somebody or simply marking themselves for life. I would like to expose the real reason why most people would get a tattoo and the history behind tattoo culture and where it originated from. For example in Japan the Yakuza Clan must earn their tattoos as a sign of rank within their community this is also apparent in many other cultures. If this documentary where to be made I would be following the syle of Louis Theroux and completely emerse myself into this world as I am planning on getting another fairly large tattoo done, I would have this done in the documentary as I believe this would be a great way to gain insight into the life of the tattoo artist and their feelings towards how tattoos are percieved in today's intolerant world. The piece would also contain interviews with other people whilst they are getting a tattoo done to find out how much pain they are willing to go through in order to have a tattoo. The Documentray would fall into the modes of expository, poetic, reflexive and performative.
