Taylor Harvey Brigden Photo Essay: There is more then just the sights
London is more then a tourist attraction
When you go to london what do you see? That all depends why you are in london in the first place, if you work there you see the daily grind of the public transport system, if you live there you see the same streets day in and out sometimes missing all the amazing things that happen daily just because you are use to seeing london in a certain way, or you are coming as a tourist someone who wants to see the sights and admire everything london has to offer for you. The idea behind this photo essay is to show a side of london that no one really notice, the lesser known attractions if you will. I wanted to capture the people of london from the business man to the busker. I wanted my photo to be deceive moments and not staged in anyway. i shot this all on the 50mm prime lens on the a cannon this is so i could get a really good depth of field. I wanted to show how diverse people could be and that when you go to london there is more to see then just tall buildings and double deckers.
It will emulate the style of photography presented by Ed Thompson in his photo essay the last of the guardian angels. This includes singling out individuals out of large crowds and taking photos in difficult places like the underground. It will also take a similar approach to photography as Martin Parr, taking photos of people taking photos, not focusing on the land marks and other attractions but take photos of the people enjoying them.
New york on election day
one of my original ideas was to go to time square on election night (I will be in the USA at the time) and take photos of both Romney supporters and Obama supporters and hopefully capture the reactions of both groups as states were won by both politicians with the final photo of the winning party supporters celebrating. I was also going to sell the photos and hopefully make a fair bit of money but there were some implications that stopped me doing that.
1. The camera i had wasn't up to the task (using a cannon 350D with a poor lens) and didn't have the money to replace it.
2. Since I was in the USA for a couple more days it was to close to the deadline of the photo essay. But I still intend to sell the photos on return to the UK
