As a group we all came decided to come up with two ideas for our documentary.  My first idea was to make a documentary about people with a disabilities. I wanted the documentary to be from people with disabilities point of view. Since I work with children with disabilities I though I could get a lot of research and contacts. I then thought of a better idea to make a documentary about Ufo’s to speak to people who have claimed to have seen them. It’s an interesting idea that I thought it would be good for a documentary festival if filmed right. After discussing ideas we decided as a group to go with the director John Bird’s idea, which was making a documentary about real life superheros. Personally I thought it was a great and I was happy to go along with it. John had done a lot of research on the subject and managed to find a list of real life supeheros. He later contacted them.

My Job role for the project is a camera operator. Since that’s a production job role Producer Toby Shepherd also have me the role as a researcher. Taylor Harvey Brigden was also given the role as a researcher and to be honest he did most of the work as a researcher. I did try to find some research about real life superheros but all I could find were American forums and American superheros. I admit I should of tried a lot harder and Taylor shouldn’t have done all that work by himself. John started giving us John jobs to do for the website. He instructed me to start doing some work on documentary process page. This was probably the best piece of work I did for the website. I added a lot of information for the page, writing about the modes of documentary and I also researched and a few documentaries. Director John was happy with the work I did so I continued to work on my own page. I wanted to be involved with the trailer that Toby, John and DOP Matt Fryer produced. Unfortunately because I don’t know how to using after affects, flash and photoshop I couldn’t get involved. The final version of the trailer looked really good and as a group we were really happy.

For my photo-essay I based mine on deceive moment, street photography that I did in London Brick Lane. For my photo-journalism page I talked about two street art photographers who inspired me, Henro-Cartier Bresson and Matt Stuart. I chose some of their images that inspired me the most and did my best to deconstruct and anaylse them. As you can see from my Photo-journalism page I struggled to deconstruct and anaylse my photos I chose. This was the first time I had to write about an image so I found it very difficult to do. We all came together to discuss and put together the presentation. John gave me the audience slide to do. John also wanted us to not read of a piece of paper during the presentation so we all had to memories our individual slides. I feel the presentation went very well and we done well as a group presenting it.

As a group I feel we worked well together and professionally. We all helped, supported and encouraged each other and it shows from the work we produced. It’s sad to say that one member our group the producer Toby let us down a lot. Even though he chose to be producer I fell he didn’t fulfill his job role as the producer. Director John Bird had to frequently tell him and the group what needed to be done. After weeks and weeks of John taking control he then took it upon himself to be the producer of the group.

John drove the group along and if it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t of produced the work that we did. When John became the producer he gave Toby the role of editing the trailer. As a group we was amazed with what he produced, he then told us that it was all his own work and he was showing us how he done it. We all praised him highly because we all thought he done a fantastic job. It wasn’t until the night before our presentation that another student informed us that the trailer that Toby made wasn’t all his own work. This meant that John and Matt had to immediately create a new trailer in the early hours of the morning.  As a group were all angry and disappointed that he lied to us. John had to remove all of Toby’s work of the Youtube page just incase we got in trouble for copyright, because we didn’t know if it was all his work. John told us on multiple occasions that as a group were dressing up smart for the presentation but Toby was only member to fail to do this. What he done was very unprofessional and as his role as producer he didn’t help the group at all.

Looking back, one thing I would change from this semester is putting more effort into research. I feel I didn’t fulfill my job role in this department and I’m disappointed with myself. Next semester we start production and because I’m the camera operator I know I’ll be more involved with the group. I’m confident camera operator and I know I will produce some good work. I’ve vowed to do better and hopefully it will show in my work next year. One thing I have learnt from this semester is that time management is very important and that if not planned right, the group can suffer. We as a group will take this into the next year and make sure we do a better job of it. I am very enthusiastic for the next semester and hopefully the hard work we have put in this year we reflect on us next year.
